SUNSET HIKE + S’MORES

Organized a guided hike in the Binghamton Nature Preserve for students to enjoy the fall foliage and meet new friends in a post-pandemic environment. S’mores and apple cider were provided over a bonfire at sunset.

Turnout: 50 attendees
Event revitalized Active Minds Binghamton post-COVID, when people were still hesitant about in-person activities. Attendance skyrocketed by 900% above average from previous year.
A special guide was invited to share meaningful details about the local fauna with students.
Refreshments were tailored to the season, such as special edition pumpkin spice graham crackers.
Jubie (President) spoke to every participant to ensure inclusion and bridge new connections between smaller groups that arrived together.
Today, Active Minds is the largest mental health organization at Binghamton University.
Sounds of the diaspora Concert

Orchestrated a 6-hour jazz concert named Sounds of the the Diaspora while studying abroad in the Netherlands (Utrecht University).
Lineup included a student opener, the Kingdom of Kush Band (booked by Jubie), a jam session, and a final DJ set.
Homemade South African food provided by classmate during the performances at ACU, a local experimental bar-cafe.

Emerging international artists who permanently relocated to the Netherlands had a special platform with funding from a top 15 university in Europe. Their immigrant stories were captured in a creatives panel to provide context in their work.
Professional photos were taken to support artists’ portfolios with the Kush Band’s new album release.
YOGA THERAPY

Coordinated restorative yoga therapy session with licensed therapist, Tinna Fetten. The practice featured a sound bowl for sensory relaxation, warm towels, and scented sprays per each participant’s preference.
An assortment of fruit and tea were provided. Personalized notepads distributed for journaling pre-therapy.

All participants reported significant elevations in mood and muscle relaxation. Fetten’s guidance through somatic connections were essential for students to recharge amid winter months. Participants also enjoyed the journaling session, which they had the option to share in a small group after yoga therapy.
